Precise Design Callaway RAZR Hawk Driver Review
Made for both power and accuracy with its precise design using forged composite technology, the new 2011 Callaway RAZR Hawk Driver has made Golf Digest’s Hot List for 2011 drivers. Now I’d like to analyze it from three aspacts.
Appearance – 4 Stars
The beautiful driver has streamlined surface contours to reduce energy loss from drag during the downswing by 43% compared to the FT-9 Driver. This creates higher impact speeds for added distance. A chemical milling process in the RAZR Hawk Driver selectively removes excess material for precision thickness control across the face to produce consistently high ball speeds for long distance. But maybe not everyone are into the haed shape.
Technology – 5 Stars
Forged Composite is the result of a unique partnership between the R&D teams of Callaway and supercar maker Lamborghini; this revolutionary new material is one-third the density of titanium, yet features a greater load carrying capacity per unit mass in bending. Forged Composite is lighter, stronger than titanium.
The sole and crown of the Callaway RAZR Hawk Driver contains more than 23 million turbostratic carbon fibers that reinforce 67% of the clubhead. This allowed engineers to precisely control thickness like never before, resulting in a clubhead that’s lighter, stronger than titanium but still has an extremely high moment of inertia. The lighter clubhead enables a longer club configuration for faster head speed, ball speed and greater distance without compromising forgiveness.
They have the RAZR Weighting System. The Draw and Neutral configurations allows golfers to choose the model that works best with their ball flight. Select models offer either Draw or Neutral configurations.
Performance – 5 Stars
The biggest advantage to the mid to high handicap golfer that struggles to get off the tee is that the miss hits that are off the heel or the toe are still playable. In a test done by Golf Magazine, many of the golfers that hit this driver hit it up to 20 yards further than their current driver. Even when they missed the center of the club face they were still able to hit this driver much longer than the driver they have been carrying in their bag.
Overall – 5 Stars
When you pair the new technologies with an Aldila RIP graphite shaft, then you have a golf club that is ready to improve your game. If you also have an interest in the RAZR Hawk faiway wood, you can see my Callaway RAZR Hawk Fairway Wood Review for more information.
