Ping G20 Driver With Two Shaft Options Review
A few days ago, Ping updated their “G” line with the release of the new G20 series. Lee Westwood, Kirk Triplett and D.J. Brigman have already tried the Ping G20 Driver at the PGA Tour. Now it is my pleasure to introduce you more about the driver.
Appearance – 4 stars
Though looks similar to the G15, the G20 driver is more appealing. All titanium head that sits close to square. The Ping G20 is a 460cc clubhead made from Ti 8-1-1, a lower-density, lighter alloy material. Large, variable-thickness in the Ping G20 Driver's face increases MOI across the hitting surface and generates faster ball speeds for increased forgiveness and power.
Technology – 5 Stars
A driver head reacts at impact by bending, or flexing. This impacts the overall sound and feel of the club, as well as how the ball comes off the club. With the Ping G20 Driver, calculated measures have been taken to make sure the ball comes off solid and online. They have adjusted the curvatures of the crown and sole to withstand the somewhat violent impact of a full on driver swing.
The reconfigured clubhead, which is 5 percent higher moment of inertia on heel or toe hits — combines with a light, 45.75-inch "high-balance point" shaft (TFC 169D or TFC 169D Tour) to boost clubhead speed and, thus, distance. Specifically, the TFC 169D shaft has more flexible tip and butt sections for softer feel.
External weighting helps launch the forgiving G20 driver with a high, low spinning ball flight for maximum distance and accuracy. It's high strength-to-weight ratio increases the MOI and allows additional weight to be strategically placed on the head. However, the price for 2011 is a little high, so you can buy it online, where cheap golf clubs are in a large number.
Performance – 5 Stars
When compared with its predecessor, the G20 driver has a heavier head than G15 for greater force at impact. Additional backweighting and a more elongated face shore up misses. Besides, the G20 launches shots 0.75 degrees higher than G15, with 200 rpm less spin and 1 mph faster ball speed on center hits, which adds up to five yards more carry and roll.
Overall – 5 Stars
The G20 Driver felt very good and certainly had some pop to it. The exclusive shaft did make a difference and added a more penetrating ball flight to my swing. Easy to hit, and can get the ball in the air, probably perfect for a 10-20 handicapper.
